E-commerce and ICT activity of UK businesses: 2015
- 83.0% of all businesses had internet access in 2015, unchanged from the previous year, with 80.7% having fixed broadband, according to new data published today by ONS.
- Less than one in ten (6.9%) of businesses had broadband speeds of less than 2 Mbps, with the number of businesses subscribing to broadband with a connection speed of between 30 and 100 Mbps increasing to 16.9% in 2015.
- Only half of businesses (50.1%) had a website in 2015, up 2.6 percentage points from the 2014, while 35.0% of all businesses used social media, up from 32.0% in 2014.
- The value of website sales totalled £234bn in 2015 (up from £214bn in 2014), contributing 42.2% to the total e-commerce sales.
- The remainder of e-commerce sales came from Electronic Data Interchange and totalled £320bn. The total value of all Ecommerce sales was £554bn in 2015.
